Domino’s Rolex Air-King Watches

If you are a luxury watch collector or enthusiast, you’re probably familiar with the Rolex Air-King collection. While these references are popular, few people have heard of Domino’s Rolex. This is not a name coined because of a specific style or color, but the label for Rolex watches made for the vast pizza chain. The merging of two different brands may come as a surprise, but it makes these luxury watches unique in a highly competitive industry. At Atlanta Luxury Watches, we have a vast catalog of top-tier timepieces guaranteed to exceed your expectations. Let’s look at the things to know about Domino’s Rolex.

History of the Domino’s Rolex

Domino’s Pizza is one of the largest pizza chains in the United States. Tom Monaghan, the founder, reveals the origins of Domino’s Rolex in his autobiography, Pizza Tiger. According to the memoir, he recalls giving out watches in 1977 after a franchisee asked about his Bulova piece with a Domino’s logo on its face. Although he started giving away Seikos, he upgraded to $800 Rolex watches.

The Rolex pieces mentioned in the autobiography are Air-King ref. 5500. These luxury watches have a stainless steel 34mm Oyster case, time-only dial and steel Oyster bracelet, making the Air-King 5500 one of the most understated models. However, the vibrant Domino’s logo inscribed on the dials of Air-King watches awarded to managers makes the discreet watches stand out. Domino’s Rolex has developed and is still in production today.

Features and Variations of the Domino’s Rolex

With over 40 years in production, these luxury watches have several variations. Earlier models included the logo on the dial, with varying colors like blue, white, and red, or black and white logos. In addition, Rolex changed the logo size and colors on newer pieces with time. In the mid-2000s, the Swiss company moved the logo to the bracelet.

The stainless steel logo is attached to the first link of the Oyster bracelet, giving it a more discreet approach to co-branding. However, some Domino’s Rolex watches have a full square logo on the bracelet, and others have simplified logos without the pizza brand. Which Rolex Watches Have Domino’s Branding?

Most Domino’s Rolex watches are stainless steel time-only pieces. Some models used over the years include Oyster Perpetual and Air-King. As mentioned earlier, Domino’s timepieces were from the AIR-King ref. 5500 collection, which is among Rolex’s longest-running models. The Air-King 5500 was discontinued in the late’80s and was replaced with the Air-King ref. 14000.

Although the Air-King ref. 14001 is the same as the 14000 line; it has an engine-turned bezel. Rolex upgraded the Air-King to the ref. 14000M and 14001M, which have improved movements. The watchmaking giant continued to upgrade the Air-King movement, which is noticeable in the 2007 piece, Air-King ref. 114200.
